Barriers and Overcoming Them
I'm opening this topic to have a discussion to collect examples of barriers, perceived or real, that people may have encountered which are limiting their ability to find their way to the pathway into STEAM careers. These maybe barriers you've experienced in your own lives, observed of people you've encounte
Please don't be afraid to highlight specific situations, but do your best to avoid making a connection to a specific person(s). I do think it would be okay to highlight groups of people as having challenges. Getting right to these specific examples will help people connect with our mission and hopefully find solutions. I think it will also be food for thought of other groups of people who may be facing similar challenges.
I'd also invite discussions about how we can work to help people overcome these barriers, specific examples are best. Even if we can't break down or remove the barriers, engineers will work to find paths AROUND barriers, or under, or over them.
